Next up in our International Women’s Day series, we have Associate & Job Captain, Kelsey Danciger.

Why do you think it is important to celebrate International Women’s Day?
For the future generations! Global celebrations, such as IWD, recognize achievements in diversity and the importance of overcoming discrimination and stereotypes. Showing young people what’s possible inspires them to carry these values into the future and achieve even more.

What advice would you give to young women aspiring to a similar career path?
As my mother likes to say, “the harder I work, the luckier I get.” Diligence, hard work, and goal setting will allow you to shape the future and career you envision for yourself. Don’t just think it, do it!

What’s the biggest learning experience you’ve had?
My first site visit. I remember stepping out of the office and putting on a hardhat, thinking “Woah, this is serious.” Suddenly being on a full-scale construction site seemed to breathe life and meaning into my years of modeling and drawing at college.

What’s your favorite/most rewarding part of your work?
I love Illustrating ideas through drawing and modeling. The cycle of drawing, revising, and working with a team to find design solutions is a very rewarding process, especially when the drawn design becomes a reality.

Can you share a moment that’s inspired you?
Studying abroad in Florence was an incredible experience for me. The vast history of art and architecture that defines our profession is profoundly rich and meaningful. To live in Florence, walk the streets, and sketch the buildings, was to step back in time. For an aspiring architect, it was both humbling and heartening.
