Featuring a deeply localized aesthetic and channeling the artistic energy that shaped the existing FAT (Flagler Arts and Technology) Village Arts District, the mixed-use project designed in collaboration by SB Architects and EDSA, Inc. will deepen the sense of community in a rapidly growing downtown Fort Lauderdale neighborhood, Flagler Village. The five-acre project includes apartments, offices, retail, restaurants and a hotel.

PIECING PAST WITH PRESENT

Currently home to a handful of one-story industrial buildings, FAT Village Arts District has attracted visitors through the quality of existing murals and the architectural uniqueness of its industrial buildings, drawing businesses and food establishments to the creative enclave as well. In developing the conceptual master plan for a pedestrian-oriented district that will build upon the existing village, SB Architects aims to contribute to an environment reflecting local values, piecing past with present and imagining how downtown Fort Lauderdale will accommodate an influx of people in approaching years.

PEDESTRIAN-ORIENTED

Among the key project goals were designing a mixed-use destination that will continue to attract and retain vibrant communities with a sense of authenticity, and creating a low-scale, pedestrian-oriented neighborhood that also accommodates vehicles and complements the nearby express inter-city passenger rail system the Brightline.
